Sussex County is in New Jersey. Whether you are a potential homeowner looking for a lot for sale or a builder or developer seeking land for sale for your next project, the perfect property for you may be found in New Jersey. The Garden State of New Jersey is located in the Northeastern and Mid Atlantic region of the United States. Though one of the smallest states in size, New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the country, owing in part to its location in both the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. New Jersey also happens to be the third wealthiest state in the U.S. based on median household income. The state borders New York (across the Hudson River, the Kill Can Kull, Upper New York Bay and the Arthur Kill), the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware (across the Delaware Bay), and Pennsylvania (across the Delaware River). Trenton is the state capital, and Newark is the largest city in New Jersey, followed in population by Jersey City, Paterson, Elizabeth and Edison. New Jersey has five fairly distinctive regions. The “Gateway Region” is the area of Northeastern New Jersey that lies within the New York City Metropolitan Area and many of its residents commute into the city to work. The area including Bayonne, Hoboken, Weehawken, Jersey City, Union City and North Bergen is served by light rail. The “Skylands” of Northwestern New Jersey is the more mountainous, rural and wooded area of the state. Hunterdon County and its neighbors are known for equestrian sports and quaint towns such as Lambertville and Flemington. Less than an hour from Newark airport and across the river from culture rich Bucks County, Pennsylvania, these towns offer hiking, biking, river rafting, cross country skiing, antiquing, fine dining and cultural events. New Jersey has 127 miles of coastline, which includes the region known as the “Shore”. This is the area of coast in the central-east and southeast where life is geared toward the ocean. Residents and visitors can choose from surfing, boating, family-friendly attractions like arcades and aquariums, or exploring beach towns. Each town has its own character from bustling Ocean City, Point Pleasant with its family friendly boardwalk, Stone Harbor with its specialty shops, Asbury Park founded by church goers, Cape May steeped in historic Victoriana, Atlantic City with glitzy casinos and the quiet beaches of Long Beach Island State Park. There is a destination for every beach lover. The “Delaware Valley” is made up of the southwestern counties of New Jersey, which lie within the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. This is a major historical, industrial, cultural and commercial center of the state. The final region is the “Pine Barrens” in the southern interior area of the state, which is covered by mixed pine and oak forest. This area is much less populated than the rest of the state. One million acres is dedicated to the Pinelands National Reserve. The Garden State has thriving agricultural communities and is one of the top producers in the U.S. of blueberries, cranberries, spinach, bell peppers, peaches and head lettuce. New Jersey also is home to several major rivers, lakes, ponds, bays and reservoirs, which offer residents a wealth of fishing, boating, hiking and nature-loving activities. The State has numerous state parks and geologic sites including the Palisades, Appalachian National Scenic Trail, the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the Thomas Edison National Historic Park and the Ellis Island National Monument. New Jersey boasts air, train and water transportation, major medical centers in state or nearby and post-secondary education at fine schools such as Rutgers and Princeton Universities.
