The bottom half of the state enjoys a longer growing season than the north, generally having milder weather throughout the year. Winter months are cold and annual snowfall averages from a high of 20 inches around Wilmington in the upper tip of the state, to only 9 inches in the southern coastal areas. Besides beaches and shopping, Delaware’s attractions include the 16,000 acre Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge, the 36-site Delaware History Trail, an impressive list of festivals that span the state and the calendar, and the unique two-for-one race track at Dover International Speedway – built to accommodate both NASCAR and horse racing in one facility.
