Whether you are a potential homeowner looking for a lot for sale or a builder or developer seeking land for sale for your next project, the perfect property for you may be found in the state of Washington. With roughly 6.9 million people, Washington holds the thirteenth highest population of any state, but ranks only 25th in density. The landscape is dramatic and diverse, including rainforests, snow-capped mountains, active volcanoes, grassland, and even deserts. The state, and in particular Seattle, the largest city, is notoriously rainy, but its reputation is a bit misguided. Seattle actually gets less annual rainfall than some other major cities (including New York and Atlanta) but with more than 200 days of cloud cover each year, it may seem rainier than it is. The coastal state’s climate is affected by oceanic patterns in the Pacific, as well as the rain shadow affect created by the Cascade Range of mountains running north to south through Washington, which creates a wet, but temperate climate on the western side of the range, and a much drier, arid climate on the eastern side. There are nine national forests, 18 national natural landmarks, 23 national wildlife refuges, and 31 federally-protected wilderness areas in Washington. The state’s natural bounty extends to agriculture as well; it has led the nation in apple production since 1920, supplies 90% of the country’s raspberry crop, and is the second-largest wine producing state behind California. Manufacturing accounts for most of the state’s income, though, and about 45% of it came from transportation equipment, primarily aircraft – Boeing is the state’s biggest employer other than the military. Many influential companies are headquartered in Washington state, including Starbucks, Microsoft, Amazon.com, Costco, Nordstrom, and Expedia. There is no personal income tax, corporate income tax, or franchise tax in Washington, and the state ranks 10th in per capita personal income. Major cities other than Seattle include Spokane, Tacoma, Vancouver, Bellevue, and Olympia, the state capital. Transportation is supported by an extensive ferry system (the largest in the nation), trains, trolleys, monorails, buses and even gondolas in some of the mountain ranges. Visitors have an abundance of activities to choose from, including seeing an active volcano up close at Mount St. Helens, gorgeous hikes through Olympic National Park, watching the famous fishmongers or shopping among the 300-plus vendors at Seattle’s Pike Place Market, taking the SkyRide over Spokane Falls, sipping samples among some of the 650 wineries and vineyards, or zooming 520 feet into the air to see the amazing views from the observation deck of Seattle’s Space Needle. It’s all part of a state where residents take pride in their communities, earning it the title of the cleanest state in the nation on the American State Litter Scorecard. If you are seeking property in Washington, you will find a wide variety of choices, waterfront property for sale, mountain lots for sale, riverfront property for sale, lake property for sale, beachfront lots for sale, wooded lots for sale, golf course lots for sale, vacant land for sale and even cheap land for sale.
